Leicester: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall talks about coming back to Foxes
By Akash Roy
After a successful loan spell at Luton Town, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has returned to rejoin the Leicester City side. Now his journey to earn a spot begins.
As it stands, there would be no shortage of creative midfielders for the Foxes in the upcoming season. Manager Brendan Rodgers will have additional alternatives than he had this season. One name that would excite the fans is Shepshed-born Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was loaned to Luton Town for the 20/21 season.
Having played remarkably well for his Championship side, he has garnered a lot of praise from the Hatters. Throughout 39 games, he had started in 36. He managed to score three goals and recorded six assists in the Championship. Luton managed to finish 12th in the league table while the young Fox plucked four trophies at Luton Town’s Supporters’ Trust virtual presentation event.
He won the Ian Pearce Memorial trophy, Junior Supporters Player of the Season, Internet Player of the Season, and Players’ Player of the Season. Despite that, it would be an uphill struggle for the starlet to earn a permanent position in City’s first team regularly. He would need to impress the boss in the preseason friendlies to win him over.
"“It’s all about getting ready for a strong pre-season and doing whatever I can, I’m going to go in with the mentality: ‘I need to be one of the best players here if I’ve got a chance of getting a lot of game-time,’ and then we’ll assess as pre-season goes if the pathway is going to be good. Then we’ll go from there, and whether it’s another loan. I genuinely see myself playing at Leicester because I do believe in my ability, and that’s what you need otherwise you’re never going to play at the top level.” -Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall told the Second Tier podcast."
If things don’t pan out for the 22-year-old midfielder, he is open to the option of going out on loan again to further hone his skills and mature as a player. His ultimate goal remains to play for Leicester City, and he is ready to earn his spot by working hard.
"“There’s definitely an opportunity for more games, I wanted to do this season (on loan) and get experience with the plan of going back to Leicester and pushing for a place. If I didn’t believe I could do that, I shouldn’t be at Leicester. I genuinely believe I can go back and push for a place now. And with more games (because of Europe) that might mean I get more opportunities to do what I need to do.”- he added."
Dewsbury-Hall is one of the best forward-thinking midfielders, who is adaptable to play in three midfield positions. An academy graduate like that is going to be precious when it comes to the Europa League. The reason for that is he could fill one of the four places reserved for players from City’s academy. If Leicester City does not fill the spots, they will have to reduce the overall number of registered players in the squad.
