Leicester must reject advances from Real Madrid for Fofana
By Akash Roy
Leicester City centre-back, Wesley Fofana, has garnered Real Madrid’s interest as the Los Blancos continue their search for some worthy young replacements.
Within a year, a relatively unknown 19-year-old French youngster became a household name in Europe. ‘Little Wes’ as the Leicester City fans call him, has taken the Premier League by storm since he arrived at the King Power club. The lad has shown a lot of maturity in his defending, which is well beyond his years.
Manager Brendan Rodgers had utilized the full capabilities of the starlet by pairing him up alongside Jonny Evans and Çağlar Söyüncü in a 3-4-1-2 system. The results towards the end of the season were somewhat hit and miss, but they do not undermine the courageous spirit put on by Fofana and his counterparts.
Leicester City has been perceived as a selling club, and that is not a wrong assumption by any means. But the times are changing as the club keeps on developing. In the last season, the club was scrutinized for failing to secure a Champions League spot, and this season it was a repetition of the same. However, unlike last time the Foxes can boast of bagging their first-ever FA Cup silverware, that is the measurement of gradual progress.
Leicester City on Real Madrid’s radar
Real Madrid has kept a close watch over a handful of City’s players. During the season, they had monitored Harvey Barnes and Wilfred Ndidi. But now they hope to snatch Little Wes. As reported by The Sun, Wesley Fofana has emerged as a target for Real Madrid to replace Raphael Varane should Manchester United sign the Frenchman.
The interest is understandable as the club legend Sergio Ramos had left Madrid a few days ago. The remaining wall in their central defence is Raphaël Varane, who can also depart from Santiago Bernabéu to The Theatre of Dreams. If that materializes, Real would only have Éder Militão and Nacho Fernández as their centre-halves. Having just two players for such a vital position is not enough. So that’s where our Wesley Fofana comes into the picture.
Foxes shouldn’t budge!
The Foxes are close to achieving something great very soon. Their approach in this transfer market is an indication of this. The club does not need to make any drastic sales that could impact their results. If so, Leicester City needs to add one or more centre-halves because the implemented system drains out the involved trio in this system.
A club can never grow and sustain in the top flight of English football if they are not well managed. There was a time when the East Midlanders had to let go of their starlets to profit from their sales as they focused on making the club self-sufficient.
Now those times are left behind, City should only sell to avoid redundancy by gathering extra funds to make moves for the betterment. To sell a top prospect like Fofana would only hinder City’s growth. He’s one for the future, and there is no way the club should now even consider bids on the starting eleven.
