Leicester City are expected to complete the signing of the experienced Ryan Bertrand. A winner with Chelsea, let’s see how LCFC will shape up.

After the collapse of the Robin Gosens deal, Leicester moved swiftly ahead of their competition for the signature of the experienced Ryan Bertrand. The Foxes have reportedly got their man.

So, I’ll go through our fullback options going into next season, and show you how Brendan Rodgers might line them up.

Leicester City’s defensive fullbacks

When I say ‘defensive fullbacks’ I’m referring to players who are better further back and are defensively sound. This does not mean they can’t go forward, but it means their defensive positioning will be good.

There are only really three options at the moment. Ryan Bertrand stands out amongst all the rest, with the quality of his tackles his primary allure.

Bertrand does not throw tackles around, with Sofascore putting him down at 2.1 tackles per game. As SmarterScout show though, the quality of those tackles, ball-winning tackles, is what impresses me the most.

For someone who would be expected to stay further back, maintain their position in a back four, and put in tackles at the right time, Bertrand is perfect.

The only other options for the King Power side are the strong James Justin – who can also go on the attack when needed – and the next U23 most likely to feature – Shane Flynn. Justin will not be available for a little while longer, but will be in-favour when back due to his versatility.
