With International football taking centre stage for the last month, it’s easy to forget that the domestic football season is just on the horizon — with Leicester City’s first pre-season fixture only 17 days away.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face familiar opposition in Burton Albion, as the squad tries to find some match sharpness prior to the 2021/22 Premier League season. The question for this article is; what will the Leicester City starting XI look like for the local tie?

Of course, it’s inherently difficult to predict starting line-ups, you have to make assumptions on the small amount of football you’ve seen of the players, but it’s even trickier with pre-season games — especially the opening one. There’s a balance of youth, experience, and trying to re-energise those involved in the gruelling schedule last campaign — whilst protecting players without a break after competing in EURO 2020, particularly the likes of our Belgian contingent and Kasper Schmeichel.

It’s with these prerequisites in mind that I think Daniel Iversen will start in goal. After an impressive loan spell with Preston & North End last campaign, the young Danish keeper is expected to return to Deepdale next season, but during the process of agreeing personal terms — Leicester City asked if he could attend the Foxes pre-season with the absence of both Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward — both deserving rests after being key components for their respective national sides.
