There is a renewed optimism surrounding the possibility of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans signing a new Foxes contract.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be an admirer of celebrated Belgium and Leicester midfielder Tielemans. It also seems as though the Reds now require that type of player to assist in their title run and challenge of champions Manchester City. Relinquishing Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain on a free means the need for an exquisite man in the middle is heightened.

Tielemans is good enough to play for Liverpool, or a team of that ilk – let’s, as Foxes fans, not kid ourselves. That fact is part of the reason why we love the former AS Monaco man so much – he’s a world-class footballer and a seemingly nice, humble and content guy to boot.

LCFC are also moving into the consistent European bracket themselves, sadly not quite yet with Champions League qualification but that feat feels like it should have been achieved without fuss in 2020/21, if not 2019/20. Therefore Tielemans doesn’t have to leave and can realise much of his ambition at King Power Stadium. Although it would surprise nobody when the Merseyside club attracts elite athletes’ attention.

Nevertheless an intentionally high valuation from the east Midlanders along with plans to extend the 24-year-old’s contract make it unlikely he’ll switch to Liverpool, for this season at least.

Although, reports in Belgium suggest the Reds want the Belgian and he’s gettable for £64million. That price seems far to low: King Power chiefs will be looking to obtain more than Harry Maguire’s £80m fee, in Foxes of Leicester’s view. Then there is are the suggestions Liverpool are not able to spend massive funds at the moment.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano agrees with FoL’s above assessment that this off-season seems a stretch for Tielemans’ confirmed trackers. Romano has repeatably referenced Leicester’s objective to hand their asset a fresh deal, as per Leicestershire Live.
