Leicester City continue to search for a centre-back to provide cover and improve depth. They are now linked to Sebastian Caceres of Club America.

After the disappointment of finishing fifth from such a strong position for the previous two seasons running under Brendan Rodgers, Leicester will try to stop the same mistakes. They were the highest conceding members of the top eight clubs.

To concede so many goals despite having such good defenders is unacceptable. The reason for the concessions is primarily squad depth: when either Caglar Soyuncu or Wesley Fofana were injured, the only cover was Daniel Amartey or a fullback.

LCFC are already linked to Ozan Kabak, but are now also linked by FootballInsider to Sebastian Caceres from Club America in Mexico. Here is what you need to know.

Leicester City: snap him up!

Brendan Rodgers wants squad depth, and he is getting that in abundance this season. With the signings of Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare, and Ryan Bertrand, the Foxes are looking strong.

Perhaps the King Power side are only a winger and a centre-back away from proper squad depth.

So, what does the 21-year-old Caceres bring to the table? Well, it is difficult to get statistics to provide the evidential basis of any claims I make, so you just need to trust the sources.

FootballCritic provide the best basis to study the defender. In the Mexican league, he is rated amongst the best defenders, providing crucial tackles and interceptions.

Unlike Fofana or the linked Kabak, dribbling is not the best quality of Caceres. He does not hold onto the ball and progress the ball at his feet, and nor is his passing of particular note. He is not technical or a long-ball specialist.

What the 21-year-old would bring to Rodgers’ Foxes is a strong will and strong tackle. Positionally he is excellent, getting into the right position to prevent attackers getting in on goal. Even in aerial duels, despite is diminutive height, he remains good due to positioning. His defensive maturity and quality is impressive for a man of that age. His strength is notable. Caceres is essentially a younger, faster, Jonny Evans. He is a proper defender.

Football Insider believe the valuation is around £20m. This is likely inaccurate as the financial situation of the Mexican leagues makes cutthroat bargain deals to be struck easily. Expect closer to £10m. The Uruguayan would provide the depth for Evans and still be cheap, Leicester City should snap him up!
