Leicester City is desperately looking for bargainable alternatives which could solve their right-winger crisis as the transfer window would close after August.

Many names have been thought of to match the description of exactly what the Foxes are looking out for. Unfortunately, a lot of those names have not retained their initial interest. Domenico Berardi, Daniel James, Matheus Pereira, and Noni Madueke were all considered for shouldering the right-winger responsibility.

Adding to the heavy list of names, the newest addition reported by the Spanish media outlet Fichajes is the Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio. As crazy as it might sound, there lies a lot of sense behind the pondering.

Why Marco Asensio?

Firstly, the recently reinstated manager of the Los Blancos is not willing to keep the right-winger for his plans. Carlo Ancelotti’s discard only means that Madrid will be aiming to offload him of their wages and find a potential suitor to profit from it.

Secondly, Casa Blanca is well aware of the drop in his form after the player’s cruciate ligament rupture during the 19/20 season. The injury kept Asensio out for 249 days, which resulted in the Spaniard missing 41 games that season.

It’s very tough to regain one’s usual form after an ACL injury. We all have witnessed the battle that Ricardo Pereira fought against the same injury. He still has a lot to climb to reach the level where he was during a season ago. So there’s that issue with taking a chance on Marco Asensio.

Things that Leicester City should consider

We can all agree that the 25-year-old has got some serious talent. Representing Real Madrid in 207 matches is an unreal feat in itself. He has scored 42 goals in those games. All of it within the age of 25.

Judging by the last season, Asensio played well, earning ratings above 7 whenever he played more than 45 minutes. A lot of his appearances were limited, reduced to minor rotational roles towards the end. For that, he was not able to influence the game a whole lot into the final third. That’s why his ratings for those matches were between 6 to 7.

The takeaway from analyzing the player is that it will be risky to invest our trust in him. The after-effects of the injury remain an issue. However, he has shown promise when he is used and trusted with minutes. Can Brendan Rodgers use the true potential of a player who has played at the top levels alongside great players?

If yes, then there is no better opportunity for us. Asensio is yet to reach the peak of his career. Will that “peak” be on display at the King Power? His current price is €35.00m in the transfer market. Alongside Leicester City, two other Premier League clubs are looking at the prospect enthusiastically. Everton and Leeds would love to add the starlet to their squad as much as City would. The question now is, where does the player see him fit?
