Wesley Fofana suffered a broken fibula in the final Leicester City pre-season friendly before the new campaign begins. Here’s FoL’s prognosis.

The Foxes are bracing themselves for the start of the new Premier League season, having already played four pre-season games. The latest pre-season game saw Leicester winning 3-2 against the Spanish opponents Villarreal.

However, a good performance by Leicesterk was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Wesley Fofana. The young centre-back was poised to be subbed off by Brendan Rodgers but sadly moments before that, Fer Nino committed a terrible and sickening challenge which led to the injury. Hopefully Nino apologises.

The French 20 year old defender has been so vital to the way the gaffer wants to play and henceforth, him being sidelined is a big blow to the future plans of the club. Just moments after the clash, Fofana was given oxygen, telling us the intensity of the pain he felt. Defensive partner Caglar Soyuncu’s reaction was another indication of how bad the problem was.

At first, the way his leg twisted I feared it to be a double-break ankle injury, where the defender could have been out for the rest of the upcoming season. However, the defender tweeted shortly after the match to inform the LCFC supporters of his status:

"“Hello guys, many thanks for all your messages. It is a bad day today but I am in a tremendous  club with a wonderful medical team. I will give you news as a soon as I have a final diagnosis but we already know that I have a fibula fracture. I will come back soon and stronger.”Wesley Fofana, Twitter"

The prognosis for a fibula fracture is deemed to be better than that off the first feared injury. It might take approximately three or four months for the young sensation to be completely fit. Though the absence could obviously be longer.

Nonetheless, we will know the whole outcome, once all the scans and tests are completed. With both, Jonny Evans (plantar fascitis) and Wesley Fofana now sidelined, it’s almost sure that the club would have to indulge in the transfer window for a CB.
