Under the recent circumstances that are currently transpiring at Barcelona, Leicester City has taken an interest to monitor a target in their offloading.

A few hours ago, the much-anticipated press conference of Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed some shocking information. He said that the club is resolute to offload more players. Despite their shocking decision of not re-signing Lionel Messi, it is still not enough to lower their current wage bill to the approved limit.

Barcelona desperate to offload

According to recent reports by the Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Premier League sides- Leicester City and Aston Villa are tracking down Barcelona’s centre-back Clement Lenglet for a potential transfer. The defender is bound to have a long list of suitors to choose from, but the club will be pushing him out quickly to restructure their wage limit.

After joining Barcelona from Sevilla in 2018, Clement Lenglet has been a hit and miss during his tenure. The last season was rather underwhelming for the Frenchman. The move for the 26-year-old could see the transfer fee be around the area of just over £22m. The priority of Barca is to let him go, not for profit but the sheer urgency of offloading.

Could be a bargain for Leicester City

Leicester City will be desperate to land in a trustworthy center back at the King Power Stadium before the Premier League resumes. It is because, in their last outing, the 20-year-old French centre-back Wesley Fofana got a nasty injury in which he fractured his fibula from a controversial tackle from Villarreal’s forward Fer Niño.

The injury sidelines Fofana for a considerable amount of time. Before this, City was already running low in its centre-back department. An additional requirement in the position became a matter of significant importance when Wes Morgan left. With Jonny Evans also not fit to play alongside Caglar Söyüncü, the purchase of a center-half has forced Leicester to reconsider the cruciality of the matter.

Lenglet produces a solid option for the Foxes to consider and ponder over. He is an experienced defender who is available at a cheap rate. The low price tag would not have been possible if Barcelona was not in such a financial travesty. Not to forget that Aston Villa will also find this a suitable option to add a third centre-back with Konsa and Mings. After all, they now have a hundred million to spend.
