We all know that Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has a well-groomed and cultivated image. Though we didn’t expect him to take an in-game fan selfie.

On Saturday, Leicester again defeated the so-called ‘best side in England’, Manchester City; it’s Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for me, but that’s another story. This time the Foxes lifted the Charity Shield, otherwise known as the ‘biggest 50 pence piece’ in the United Kingdom.

In all seriousness, the game – often labeled a ‘friendly’, or worse – was a decent opener before the top-flight begins properly on Friday evening, with Arsenal versus Brentford. Judging by the two managers’ reactions to incidents which upset them during the clash – the pre-campaign meeting does mean something after all!

Pep Guardiola was booked for remonstrating over Cole Palmer’s clear foul on Ryan Bertrand. Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers kicked a water bottle over in disgust as the fight for silverware unfolded.

Trophies seem to come easy to Leicester since the marvellous Srivaddhanaprabha family took over on Filbert Way. No, it’s not the most prestigious, yet the winning mentality is now fully instilled at LCFC.

However, aside from the gaffers’ outbursts, surely Maddison had the most peculiar moment in the cup formerly known as the Charity Shield. During the match, a Blue Army member got through the barricades at Wembley and went over to the No.10 who was preparing to take a corner.

Bizarrely, whether out of fear or nervousness as a strange man approached him, Maddison naively yet endearingly agreed to pose quickly for a selfie photograph on the guy’s phone.

To be fair to Madders, he was bombarded by the Foxes supporter and it was hilarious. And captured by former LCFC striker, Gary Lineker, in the above tweet.
