Leicester City’s first game of the Premier League season sealed off beautifully with a narrow 1-0 win over the enticing Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The challenge for both sides was about which predator was hungrier. The result that the Foxes extracted from their first home game of the season was not very fashionable. Understandably so as the manager, Brendan Rodgers did not have the services of several prominent players to his command.

After the major disappointment of Wesley Fofana being out most of this season, the newly joined left-back Ryan Bertrand was unavailable for this fixture due to coronavirus. With new signings like Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumaré, and Jannik Vestergaard on the bench, Rodgers went with those who have spent more time under him from the season prior.

Leicester City’s 3 players who impressed

Luke Thomas: The academy graduate had a brilliant season last time around. He started by carrying forward his form. The unavailability of Bertrand made Rodgers go with the club’s academy product to fill in the starting lineup.

Thomas did not disappoint the Foxes and was one of the better performers on the pitch.
Thomas contributed defensively, which followed several of his well-timed tackles and meticulous interceptions. His breakthrough moment of the game came from an offensive display when he provided a clinical ball for Maddison with purposeful potential. He looks to be improving with the minutes that the gaffer is entrusting him.

Ricardo Pereira: Since the preseason fixtures, the Blue Army has noticed the frequent flashes of the old Ricardo Pereira that we all know and love. His trademark traits returned at full disclose to those who were present at the King Power.

Ricardo appeared swift in covering the length of the pitch and contributing to establish an attack or be aware of nullifying an offensive threat from the flanks by his timely defense.

But the crowning moment for the Portuguese came when he took on two Wolves defenders at once with his trickery to get past them and conjure a perfectly placed cross that assisted Vardy to put Leicester up by 1-0.

Jamie Vardy: Once again, we witnessed the personification of the proverb- age is just a number. Jamie Vardy proved to his doubters wrong by scoring a stunning goal displaying his possessed caliber and flair.

The Wolves backline got the taste of a vintage Vardy whose razor-sharp movement remained a poaching threat throughout the game. He found the net twice, but unlucky for him, one of the two was called offside.
