The new Premier League season for Leicester City kicked off yesterday at King Power Stadium, where the home team beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in a close 1-0 encounter.

Wolves were unbeaten in the first match of a domestic league in the past eight years, until yesterday where Foxes legend Jamie Vardy scored a stupendous goal following a sublime Ricardo Pereira’s pass.

Leicester City player ratings

Kasper Schmeichel – The Danish goalkeeper wasn’t particularly tested as the opponents failed to register an attempt on target in the first half. He was more involved in the second half and had to make couple of saves. 8/10

Ricardo Pereira – The Portuguese right-back is up and running in the new season after his horrific injury. He is already hitting the levels, the blue army expects him to touch. He was solid at defending and was a threat going forward, adding an assist to his tally. 9/10

Caglar Soyuncu – The 25 year old centre-back had a good game too, with couple of crucial blocks. With continuous changes in the CB partnership role, he adapted to the circumstances. 8/10

Daniel Amartey- After Wesley Fofana’s injury, his role was important. However, I would not say that he was terrific against Wolves. He did come up with some crucial blocks but his passing and distribution was questionable at times. 6/10

Jannik Vestergaard – The new CB signing from Southampton made his debut in the second half from the bench. Understandably, it looked if he needed some time to adjust with the new surroundings. 7/10

Luke Thomas – The young left-back was probably one of the best players in the blue shirt. He defended as well attacked superbly during the play. 9/10

Wilfred Ndidi- He had a decent tackling session in the centre of the midfield and was slick in passing the ball forward. 8/10

Youri Tielemans – Showed his quality on the ball whenever got the chance. Forced a tremendous save from Jose Sa, after attempting a long range strike. 8/10

Boubakary Soumare – I was really impressed with the French midfielder, when he came on as a substitute. He passed the ball without any problem under the press of Wolves. 8/10

James Maddison – Started really well in the first half, but eventually faded in the second part. He held his hip following a fall prior to the break, which would be a concern for many supporters. 7/10

Harvey Barnes – Not at his best, tried to overdo with the ball. At several instances had the chance to pass the ball in good areas, yet decided to dribble past his opponent. 6/10

Ayoze Perez – Made good forward passes at times. A bit dull with his interceptions and control. 7/10

Kelechi Iheanacho – The Nigerian forward linked well with Jamie Vardy and helped the team in the dying minutes to hold the ball near the corner. 8/10

Jamie Vardy- There is no doubt that he is my Man of the Match: scored a wonder-goal to help LCFC win their first match of the season. If slight luck would have been in his favour, he might have scored two or three. 10/10
