Leicester City legend and current first-choice striker Jamie Vardy celebrated scoring by annoying Wolverhampton Wanderers fans at the weekend.

Wolves were unlucky not to get a goal in the second half against the Foxes – I am sure we can all agree on that! Nevertheless, the King Power side managed to hold on as they claimed three points in their 2021/22 Premier League opener.

Vardy was the match-winner on the day thanks to a marvellously taken finish; Ricardo Pereira beat two men and supplied a delicious cross for the No.9’s delicate left-footed stretch. Then following scoring, the attacker went straight over to the away support and proceeded to celebrate by howling like a wolf.

Vardy explained the celebration post-match:

"“It’s one of them, it’s all instincts. You do what comes to your mind at the first moment.“A good celebration, but I’m just delighted to get the three points.”– Jamie VardyVia LCFC TV"

As you can see above, the Premier League obviously liked Vardy’s post-goal antics, as their Wednesday morning social media featured the wily old Fox as a possible cover photo star. EPL often chooses a rotating, part-time picture for their account on a weekly basis.

Some viewers – possible none of our readership – may criticise the former England international goalscorer for attempting to annoy or antagonise opposition supporters. Yet there is more than that to it: there was no malicious intent from Vardy, a truly down-to-earth man of the people who wants to engage in harmless banter with the opponents.

Another keen element to consider in these scenarios is that Vardy and his wife Rebekah take much criticism and stick from the public and fans of opposing teams. Vardy in particular is singled out by other faithfuls and mercilessly attacked by obscene gestures, and in songs along with Mrs Vardy. Part of the issue or substance derives from the latter’s media court case versus former Three Lions captain Wayne Rooney’s other half, Coleen.
