Brendan Rodgers on how scouting helped Leicester become an elite club
By Akash Roy
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers went candid while talking about his overwhelming fondness of the scout & recruitments of his club on Sky Sports.
Leicester City has been one of the best clubs in the English top tier, who has constantly found relatively unknown young talents that have swiftly taken over the Premier League by storm. Their scouting and recruiting departments have not disappointed much in their player evaluation.
The outcome from that structured system has yielded long-term financial sustainability at the club by making profiteering from player sales and finding new suitors as worthy replacements for cheap. This mantra has worked to near perfection since the King Power club’s promotion back into the Premiership.
"“We’ve tried to produce a team that’s really competitive and can play a certain brand of football but is also young and developing. Of course, as a manager, you don’t know every single player, but thankfully I am involved in the recruitment process and can give an opinion.”– Brendan Rodgers, via Sky Sports."
Since the arrival of the Northern Irishman, the East Midlands side has found its thriving identity. Before that, the Foxes were unsure what they were exactly. Rodgers made it clear that he would bank on developing a counter-attacking side: nothing more, nothing less.
Brendan Rodgers did not tamper with the tried and tested method that has worked flawlessly. Instead, he based his relied foundations on it. Working integrally with the scouts, the manager has been equally involved with the transfers in the offseasons.
"“I think where we’re clear here is in understanding the profile of player we want and what fits into our way of playing and working. Also, very importantly, the type of character we want because we take no risks with that. The recruitment here has been outstanding for a long time and obviously in the time I’ve been here, the last two-and-a-half years, the players we’ve brought in have done very, very well.”– Rodgers adds."
Leicester City even after selling one massive name annually, has coped magnificently domestically. Players like N’Golo Kanté, Danny Drinkwater, Riyad Mahrez, Harry Maguire, and Ben Chilwell all left every season. That did not derail City’s motivated hunger on the pitch. They found quick replacements in players like Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison, Caglar Söyüncü, Youri Tielemans, Wesley Fofana, and James Justin.
More astonishingly, they claimed the FA Cup and the Community Shield against Chelsea and Manchester City, respectively. It shows that City is more than capable of going toe to toe against the so-called Big Six in the league. The Foxes have shown that you don’t need to be the biggest spender to garner accolades.
"“I think at this moment in time, Leicester City is a very attractive place to be. If you want to develop as a player, work in world-class training facilities and be a part of a real community club with a family feel, then this is a great place for you. But having been at so-called big clubs, I also understand what the draw of them can be for a player. For us, it’s just about developing this football club.”– The boss concludes."
With world-class signings under the radar, the Foxes have proved once again that their meticulous business is unhinged and unaffected by missing out on Champions League action for this season. With players like Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumaré, Jannik Vestergaard, and Ryan Bertrand, the gaffer will finally have his chance of qualifying for a top-four finish which he missed out on twice.
