Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are looking to add a first team winger or wide midfielder to the squad ahead of deadline day. This is all you need to know.

If reports are to be believed, then the Foxes will have transferred out Rachid Ghezzal, Kamal Sowah, and now Dennis Praet. These transfers undoubtedly are to make space in both the squad and budget for a new player.

Rodgers himself has spoken of the next transfer his side will look to make and there have been further updates since. Let’s run through what we know and look at those likely targets.

Leicester City to add an ‘attacker’

Here is the quote from our head coach, via BBC Sport Leicester:

"We’re looking at bringing at least one more in. I’ve got a lot of trust in the squad, but we’re hopeful we can add one more on the attacking side.–  Brendan Rodgers after beating Norwich City"

Jordan Blackwell – correspondent for LCFC Live – added to the news with rumours that the King Power side are either signing David Neres or someone not yet publicly linked, and that it is not thought to be a previously linked player.

If it is true that the potential target Rodgers was referring to is not someone yet linked, then the options are both narrowed down and broadened considerably.

Narrowed in that we can expect the transfer target to not be Domenico Berardi, Daniel James (thank goodness with that one), Noni Madueke (who signed a new contract), etc.

Broadened in that there are a plethora of options out there instead of those. So, just who could Leicester City be in for?

Who could it be?

Well, there have been plenty of links, including those not so likely or particularly accurate, and we can expect the player to be either a right-winger or a wide midfielder. This player will likely be someone who is experienced and can score goals.

Supporters can be confident that we get someone. Though there are probably a couple of talks ongoing just incase the main target does not pull through.

David Neres is the name most recently spoken about, and Leicester are expected to be the only club taking a concrete interest in the player; a player whom the Ajax director of football has specifically stated is likely to leave.

There is interest from Ajax in selling, interest from the player in leaving, and interest from the Foxes. The stars are aligning for this transfer, though perhaps a little too easily. He would be a class signing.

Ademola Lookman was touted early in the window as a candidate. He is now heavily linked with a move to the King Power. Sky Sports report that we are in talks with RB Leipzig over a loan deal.

Lookman would bring defensive attributes and could offer a long-term replacement to Marc Albrighton, where Neres would bring a prolific goal threat. If LCFC go for Neres it is a permanent transfer not a loan. I would expect loan to buy for Lookman.
