Leicester’s injury round-up ahead of massive month of football
Leicester City have several players returning from injuries at the end of the international break. Here is a round-up of who should be available soon.
Ahead of a packed schedule for the rest of September, Brendan Rodgers will be relieved to hear that some of his important players are back, and that others are making significant progress.
If I needed to remind you, Leicester have had one of the worst defensive injury crises since Liverpool last season.
Those that have been out already include: Wesley Fofana, James Justin, Jonny Evans, Jannik Vestergaard, Timothy Castagne, Ryan Bertrand, and there were worries when Ricardo Pereira hobbled off against Norwich City.
To Leicester City’s relief
Finally, after the injury crisis threatened to derail what will be a mammoth month for the club, there is some good news for supporters. As reported by LeicestershireLive, here’s what you need to know.
Firstly, our composer at the back – Evans – looks set to return to first team training ahead of the King Power sides’ hosting of Manchester City later this month.
Though he will not be fit to play, he’ll build his fitness back and return to action this month hopefully.
Vestergaard – signed to cover Fofana’s injury – also returns to first team training after a minor injury prevented him from starting alongside Caglar Soyuncu. He will also not be fit enough to play against the Citizens.
Ryan Bertrand seems to have recovered from illness. He was suffering with a relatively mild case of SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19) and looks to be in good enough fitness. Expect him to feature against City from the bench.
Castagne has been playing for Belgium, so is building up his fitness and sharpness. Meanwhile, the minor tweak to Ricky P is ‘nothing serious’.
Justin should be back in October so long as his recover continues on a positive trajectory. That will feel like a new signing when he is back.
In the meantime, ‘Little Wes’ has posted images of himself walking unaided. Though he will still need some time to strengthen the ligaments, muscles, and bones back to where they were, this is a very impressive recovery thus far.
A massive month
The three returning players could not have come at a better time. Rodgers’ Foxes will be partaking in three Premier League fixtures, two Europa League fixtures, and one EFL Cup fixture, in the remaining weeks of September.
With Manchester City, Napoli, Burnley, and Legia Warsaw included amongst those matches, Leicester City will need all the players they can to maintain fitness and cover for potential injuries. No doubt there should be several personnel and tactical changes for these fixtures.
Let us just hope that the end of the unimpressive Cags-Daniel Amartey partnership is sooner rather than later, and we can see a little bit of composure in defence.
