Leicester City missed literal chances to make champions Manchester City sweat in their Premier League loss at King Power Stadium.

Man City are a delightful force in football, everyone is aware of that fact. Yet they are far from impenetrable. Not to mention, judging by his European failures, Pep Guardiola is not a footballing genius. Sorry to break it to ya.

The point I am driving at, regardless of quality, is that by pressurising the Citizens, teams can get the better of the champions. We saw that with the Foxes’ 5-2 dismantling of Guardiola’s men last season. A campaign in which they obviously eventually triumphed in.

Nevertheless, a 1-0 margin won the contest for Man City; though LCFC squandered many decent chances to complete a comeback – or even take the points, at a push. Brendan Rodgers’ team sure is good enough to do so. Jamie Vardy should have stayed onside when his goal was ruled out after scoring wonderfully.

Harvey Barnes and James Maddison need to address their form – and fast. While certain aspects such as midfield and defence were much improved. Patson Daka will consider himself unlucky not to be involved; I advocate starting Ademola Lookman in the next outing.

With a few necessary alterations to style and possibly starting personnel, Rodgers can guide Leicester to top-flight top six once more. There could even be a League Cup or Europa League cup lift, especially if Domenico Berardi is signed in January.

Why Leicester City midfielder Papy Mendy didn’t leave despite being unfavoured

Mendy is very far down the pecking order on Filbert Way right now, even below Hamza Choudhury. Choudhury also has no chance of featuring unless Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans or Boubakary Soumare are injured. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is ahead, too, but is slightly more naturally attacking.

The former’s transfer move to Newcastle United fell through as the Magpies were clearly unwilling to deal fairly. Mendy’s switch to Turkey at the final hour of the window broke down as the Frenchman could not conduct a medical in time.

Now the diminutive player has been left out of the Leicester EPL and UEL squads; therefore Mendy probably won’t play any competitive football until January. And that will only be after leaving LCFC, I expect.
