Leicester: Brendan Rodgers’ excuse for Maddison’s poor form
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has offered his opinion as to why midfield maestro James Maddison is struggling to rediscover his previously excellent Foxes form.
If you think Maddison is an overrated footballer, then I would turn your attention to any one of a large number of YouTube skills, assists and goals videos for proof of the former Norwich City man being tried and tested at the highest level of domestic football. In other words his talent is blatant.
However, merely having the skill set is not always enough: the elite player must develop and be consistent. Unfortunately for Maddison, the undeniable areas in which he must prove himself on a regular basis are facilitating and scoring. He is failing to achieve that productivity at present. No assists or goals in 16 matches is alarming for a No.10 of his calibre.
Leicester City boss Rodgers gave his opinion on ‘Madders” recent displays at Wednesday’s pre-Napoli press conference:
"“Every player will always go through a period, especially with the rise James [Maddison] has had. Injuries have held him back. I’ve no doubt over the course of the season he will be an important player for us. He’s got a big talent. He’s working hard in training. He will show his worth.“The level he has been at, you go through a period where you don’t quite hit the heights. But once he gets his rhythm and we improve as a team, he will get that form back.”Via Leicestershire Live"
Leicester City skipper’s honesty about promising new signing
In addition to the the Northern Irishman speaking at the presser, Kasper Schmeichel also spoke of his admiration for a new face in the squad this term. Jannik Vestergaard signed from Southampton in a reported approximate £15million deal; the Danish centre-back won over certain skeptical Foxes fans after completing his move and making reliable appearances.
Now his compatriot offered his verdict on the defender, saying he’s never “hidden” his appreciation of the Dane’s skills. Furthermore, the LCFC captain admitted that he feels safe with Vestergaard at the back – and that is the biggest compliment he can pay a CB. Being a threat in both boxes – presumably aerially – is also a positive note Schmeichel makes. Read more at Leicestershire Live.
