Leicester City have another injury to contend with, following the news that vital centre-back Jonny Evans has a problem after an ill-advised start.

With Brighton & Hove Albion upcoming on Sunday for the Foxes, Brendan Rodgers’ team was finally in a good situation defensively; only Wesley Fofana and James Justin remain sidelined.

However, after questionably choosing to field Evans in the starting eleven, Rodgers put himself in an unfortunate position that he’s been in before. The northern Ireland international is not the first Fox to be “rushed” back into the fold and suffer a reoccurrence of a previous injury: James Maddison has, as well as Ricardo Pereira.

Obviously the manager’s medical staff cleared the centre-back to play against Napoli, yet maybe a substitute appearance would have been wiser.

According to the boss and Leicester Mercury, Evans is now potentially ruled out of the Brighton match; the latter will be assessed over the next couple of days.

Rodgers chose to make additional changes to his starting team, consequently granting the Blue Army their collective wish of seeing new signings Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare begin the match. Meanwhile last season’s top goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho was also introduced from minute one; oddly this was his initial time in the XI this campaign.

Ayoze Perez also made some strides towards being in the Foxes fans’ good books, as he netted on the first occasion since March. Ouch. Hopefully Perez can be given a role and position in the side – preferably via the substitute bench – to suit his rather unique talents.

Perez and Harvey Barnes’ goals set up the King Power outfit for a fine win and solid foundation in their group. But Leicester managed to throw away that lead, even prior to Wilfred Ndidi’s sending off in the second half injury allotment. Ndidi’s countryman Victor Osimhen got the visitors back level with his well-taken brace. Legia Warsaw are LCFC’s next opponents in the competition.
