Leicester City faced burnley at King Power Stadium in their sixth match of the season, where Jamie Vardy scored twice for the home team.

The Premier League is up and running with the matches coming thick and fast. Leicester have started rather on a slow note, where the defence has become a major concern.

Both main choice centre-backs of the club have been out injured, with Wesley Fofana expected to return at the beginning of the next year. Jonny Evans has been struggling with his ongoing issue of plantar fascitis and as a result is not starting every game at the back.

The Foxes faced Burnley in their sixth match of the campaign at King Power Stadium, where the home team made some changes in the starting eleven from the one which started against Brighton & Hove Albion at Amex Stadium. Ademola Lookman, the new exciting loanee from RB Leipzig, was on the scoresheet earlier in the week against Millwall in the Carabao Cup. He replaced James Maddison against the latest English top-flight opponents.

The match had a fast pace to it since the beginning and the home team looked a threat going forwards. However, a good fast start was overshadowed by a horrific flick from Jamie Vardy during a Clarets corner, resulting in an early lead to the visitors.

Jannik Vestergaard and Caglar Soyuncu struggled with the pace of the attackers of Sean Dyche’s team. The breakthrough finally came at the other end when Youri Tielemans played an absolute peach to LCFC’s No.9 who finished the move with a cool head into the side netting, making it all square. Although the lead was short lived, as the visiting team made it 2-1 when a thunderous volley from Maxwell Cornet took everyone by surprise.

In the second half Brendan Rodgers made a shift in the personnel department, when he brought Timothy Castagne in place of Ricardo Pereira. The second period was mostly played in the opposition’s half as they maintained a low block and defended very well.

Later in the match Kelechi Iheanacho came from the bench, making an impact instantly as he assisted Vardy soon after to equalize in a high tempo match. The criticism regarding the gaffer’s decision not to pick the Nigerian striker is now flaring as supporters continue to not understand the reason behind him being a substitute. In the dying minutes of the game, Chris Wood’s goal was disallowed by VAR as he was judged to be marginally offside.

This season’s major issue has been the defence and it continues to be so. I think the attack has been decent for the past three or four matches. Nevertheless it has been absolute mockery at the back; if there are goals to be achieved this season then it is essentially important for Kasper Schmeichel’s team to defend better.
