Harvey Barnes explains the feeling in Leicester City camp
Leicester City’s players have reacted angrily to their overall performance over the past few weeks. Harvey Barnes has had his say on how the team feels.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have fared poorly in the previous few weeks, failing to match their form from the previous season. This is due to a variety of factors.
The Foxes have struggled with defensive injuries crippling their core, a lack of form for key creative players – such as James Maddison and Harvey Barnes – and a tactical stubbornness from boss Rodgers.
We have already covered the views of star player Timothy Castagne, but now Barnes has also been asked for his perspective, and it really is what you would expect.
Leicester City are bitterly disappointed
As per the Daily Mail, Barnes has commented on the form of the team, and what they need to do in order to improve their form and get back to where they need to be.
"“We know we’ve got a lot to learn from the past few weeks where we’ve had a few tough results”"
The point that is being stressed by both Castagne and Barnes has clearly been instilled in them from Rodgers. There is a need to learn from the results.
We cannot get too down, but more so we need to get angry at our mistakes and learn from those to not repeat them.
Of particular note was how Barnes felt towards the defensive side of the game.
"“We let that slip and lost points… We allowed them to get too many chances and we didn’t defend the box well enough as a team”"
From getting into good positions, two goals up at half-time against Crystal Palace or equalising against Burnley, to only getting a single point from each match is tough to take.
The team must improve defensively until we can get James Justin, Jonny Evans, and Wesley Fofana back into the side.
This might require sacrificing some creative potential to keep a defender back or have an extra defender. This might be formational – a shift to 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2 – or perhaps instructional, asking Ryan Bertrand or Luke Thomas to remain back and form a back three in defence.
Whatever happens, Rodgers has the international break to rekindle the creative and defensive cores of this Leicester City side; a side that need a break more than any other team.
