The rumour-mill is in full motion as the January transfer window approaches and Leicester City have been linked to an exciting new target. January will be a key period for Leicester, with Justin back in the squad and Evans – hopefully – fully recovered, we will truly be able to see what areas of the pitch need fixing.

James Maddison has been misfiring as of late, so much so that his place in the starting XI is no longer guaranteed. The attacking-midfielder has failed to register a goal or an assist in over 17 games for Leicester, perhaps this is why the Foxes are considering a new attacking option: Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

A few seasons ago, if Leicester had been linked to Lingard, I’d have laughed at you. In 2019/20, Lingard endured arguably the worst season of his career, only netting his first Premier League goal of the season with a 90+8-minute strike against Leicester on the final day. However, since then, Lingard has turned his fortunes around.

After failing to make a claim in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side, the Red Devils let Lingard go out on loan in the January transfer window last season. West Ham was his destination, but no one could have predicted how well he would do there.

Lingard took to the Hammers like a duck to water, scoring 9 goals and making 5 assists in only 16 Premier League appearances, including 2 goals against Leicester. During his time at West Ham, he was arguably one of the best players in the Premier League. It was a reminder of what a confident Jesse Lingard can do.
