The question now is if I see the move happening, and unfortunately, I don’t. I’d love to see it happen, but this does feel a little like paper-talk. If Lingard was to leave United, then he will have a number of options. West Ham are understandably interested in bringing him back to the London Stadium, and it would make sense for him to go back to a manager and team in which he knows he can flourish.

Leicester also face competition from Newcastle United who, after their new controversial Saudi takeover, now have millions to splash on players. Whilst Lingard may not be taken by the Magpies, the money they will be able to offer him will surely be more than Leicester can and will be willing to offer.

Lingard could also stay at United if his current form continues; after all, he is an academy graduate who now starts for England. I’m sure that United will do everything they can to keep him at the club.

I’m not completely writing this one off, but if Leicester want Lingard, they will have serious competition. If they are serious about this deal, then they need to be sorting it now or else risk someone else getting the £15m bargain.
