Leicester v Brighton: Expected Foxes line-up and injury news
Leicester City host Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup. Here is what to expect from Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes and all the current injury news.
Rodgers’ King Power side will hope to put out another winning performance, regardless of whether they have most of the ball or not, as they host the best team on the south coast. The visitors sit fifth in the Premier League table, one point ahead of the Foxes. They will be tough opposition.
Unlike our last match – Brentford – the Seagulls have plenty of experience playing against teams of our quality and have improved immeasurably under Graham Potter. Potter’s men will hope to put a good cup run together.
Leicester City injuries
As per LeicestershireLive, we know the players who are out and those who are just returning to action. Wesley Fofana, Marc Albrighton, Wilfred Ndidi, and James Justin remain out for this match, though Justin is returning to training in the coming weeks.
Jamie Vardy came off with a knee problem against Brentford, though this was more of a precaution to protect him and provide Patson Daka more playing time. The gaffer will want to keep Vardy fit and fresh for much more of the season and rely on him less than last season.
Leicester will have the same team available they had against Brentford, hopefully this means the boss can select another winning team. That being said, Rodgers may choose to use this as an opportunity to give others play time.
Expected XI
It can be expected that we will see some changes at least from the team which faced Brentford. Firstly, it would be useful to keep that winning team fresh for future matches and not risk any injuries; second, we would like to give other players a chance to impress.
Therefore, I expect Leicester City to field either that same winning team or a completely different team. We will go over what team to expect should Rodgers select a different team to the current winning team.
Goalkeeper: Danny Ward gets his run out in domestic cup competitions, and this match will be no different. The Welsh international is a solid keeper with excellent short distribution so would be useful in playing out from the back.
Defence: A back three is likely as LCFC seek to control the game from the back. Jannik Vestergaard, Jonny Evans, and Daniel Amartey may start together to give the Danish international a chance. Otherwise, the gaffer will stick with Caglar Soyuncu.
Midfield: Youri Tielemans should be rested for this match despite his impact on the team. Hamza Choudhury, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Timothy Castagne, and Luke Thomas, will form the midfield line.
Attack: Three up front would be called upon to get Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka, and Ademola Lookman back into the team. Daka may be exchanged with Kelechi Iheanacho to keep the Nigerian goal scorer’s confidence high.
A 3-4-3 formation would provide defensive solidity and the opportunity for swift counterattacks using the pace of Barnes, Daka, and the dribbling of Lookman. Let Foxes of Leicester know what team you think Rodgers will face on our social media channels.
