The latest Leicester City fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion at King Power Stadium saw the hosts win narrowly on penalties.

The foxes are on a great run where they have now won four in a row. The amazing sequence started amidst the defence leaking easy goals and a continuous process of LCFC failing to hold on to lead at crucial moments. Wednesday night was an emotional one for a blue army member as it marked three years since that tragic accident which involved the beloved former chairman of the club, Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

A good cup run is something which Brendan Rodgers is determined upon. The hunger for more silverware since the FA cup triumph has only increased, with sights focussed on the Carabao Cup. The hosts opened the scoring last night when Harvey Barnes capitalized on a mistake by the back line of the visitors. However, if you analyze the goal closely, that mistake was forced by the brilliant pressing of the Foxes forward line.

The visitors exploited an ongoing weakness of defending set pieces using an atrocious zone; the Seagulls scored just before the half time through Adam Webster. But Leicester immediately made it 2-1 and restored their lead before the half time whistle from an Ademola Lookman finish. Some may argue that both the goals scored by Leicester were handed to them on a plate.

Graham Potter made significant changes in the middle of the second half, pushing the Hamza Choudhury captained side onto the back-foot. Patson Daka’s Zambian team mate Enock Mwepu made it 2-2 and took the game to penalties. Once again it was the east Midlanders’ goalkeeper understudy Danny Ward who was in the goal to save the penalties; he’s made some terrific saves in the past from the penalty spot.

James Maddison began penalties proceedings and scored his intelligently in the opposite corner of the diving Jason Steele. Neal Maupay missed the second penalty for Brighton, hitting the crossbar; while City scored every one of their next three penalties through Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka and Ricardo Pereira. The scorer of the second goal for the visitors, Mwepu’s, penalty was saved by Danny Ward to see LCFC through to reach the last eight of the competition. The draw to determine the fixtures of the Quarter Finals is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
