Kasper Schmeichel initially responded to a question about the Leicester City defence this season in a rather irritated sounding manner. Here is what was said.

This campaign has witnessed a rather drastic seeming decline in the Leicester starting defence. I mean, it wasn’t fully stable last season following the long-term absence of James Justin since February; then Wesley Fofana’s injury in August derailed centre-back planning this. Jonny Evans adds assurance to the back-line, yet it is not as robust, cunning nor miserly as it should be.

Essentially too many goals are being leaked, clearly: two reasons are the shake-up of mediocre signings being added, not to mention the ever-changing system and formation. Stability is key for any set of defenders; hopefully Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers will have a fully fit defensive squad to choose from in January, as Justin and Fofana should be fit for selection by that time.

After another disheartening result – 1-1 versus Spartak Moscow – Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was asked for the reason for problems in defence this term:

"“If I knew, then it wouldn’t be happening, would it?” said the stopper.“It’s something we’re working on every single day. It’s not working too well at the minute but we have a track record that’s pretty good over the last few years, so confidence is there that it will come back – but we need to do better.” Schmeichel finished with a more reflective quote.Via Leicester Mercury"

Schmeichel is a passionate professional who has very high standards and wants the best for LCFC, as Foxes of Leicester see it.

Along with the state-of-the-art training facility, this great work on the ground again elevates the club toward the area of English football standing they desire to be.
