Leicester City already have a set-piece coach, incredibly
Unbelievably, according to a vague yet intriguing report, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has already appointed a Foxes set-piece coach.
In three consecutive games, the current Leicester side has conceded from a corner. In every match it happened. But do you want to know the really scary aspect of this?: a large section of Foxes supporters, including myself, were already petrified of allowing any attacking set-pieces to the opposition for months – if not a year or more before this contemporary cursed run began.
It is a problem, the constant conceding from corners; I wrote a more comprehensive editorial for Foxes of Leicester about why this is happening, along with my assumption that Rodgers is delusional or in denial in this instance.
The issue relates to the LCFC manager’s choice to defend set-plays by employing a zonal marking system, or at least a rather strange and overly-intricate so-called hybrid zone method. A disastrous decision by the boss, as the squad cannot efficiently execute the instructions. Or zones are just awful overall, is another way to view the scenario.
And the most mind-blowing revelation of late concerning this question of non-proficient defending in relation the the gaffer’s mistakes – even in hindsight Rodgers alleged there wasn’t an ongoing difficulty from last season, unbelievably – is the fact that Leicester already have a set-piece coach. You can read more on that ‘claim’ here.
Well, that ‘coach’ either needs to be brave and demand that the Northern Irishman change the defence structure when defending corner etcetera, via showing the gaffer the statistics and replays we are all torturously put through each week. Furthermore, it is a wonder what the chats between the set-piece ‘expert’ and Rodgers consist of. Some placating and sycophancy from one side, I suppose: how do you tell your boss that they are wrong and ignorant to obvious detriment?!
