As we enter another international break, Leicester City find themselves in a disappointing 12th position yet at the same time only two points off the top six. On other fronts, LCFC have reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup but are struggling in Europe. As a result, Brendan Rodgers is facing his first serious questions from elements of the Foxes support. Once again, it’s too early to even contemplate sacking the boss, yet there is something that just isn’t working and needs changing.

Individually Leicester possess some of the better defenders in the league, so it’s baffling that these players are unable to work together effectively. FOL endeavours to put forward the potential reasons for Leicester’s defensive mishaps in this campaign.

The statistics:

First, let me warn you these don’t make pretty reading. Using the most basic metric, the east Midlands side have conceded 18 goals this season from 11 games, equating to around 1.64 goals/game. This is joint 5th worst in the Premier League. When looking at all competitions, there is little solace to be found with the Foxes keeping a meagre two clean sheets in 20 plus games. It can’t help that Leicester are facing an average of 15.6 shots per game, which is the 4th highest in the Premier League. This certainly correlates with a decline in territorial/possession dominance the Foxes enjoy in matches lately.
