Leicester City’s development teams were in action this week. One fell afoul of a harsh defeat, the other a resounding victory. This is what we learnt.

Both the U23 and U18 squads were on display on Monday 22nd November, with the young Foxes once more showing us both their brilliance and where they must still develop. There are three things I learnt from those matches, we will go through each in turn after a quick summary of the results.

The U18’s kicked off the day in startling fashion. Joe Wormleighton – who was captaining the side – scored inside a minute against Norwich City’s U18 squad. The fixture would go on to be a rout as Chris Popov, Kian Pennant, and Jack Butterfill helped the youth side to a 7-0 home victory.

The U23’s were not so lucky. Despite Tawanda Maswanhise starting the match off inside four minutes, with a stupendous goal, the young Foxes would go on to capitulate 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur’s respective youth side.

Leicester City’s star youth

For Brendan Rodgers, the Northern Irishman will see the King Power sides youth setups and be nothing short of impressed. Individual talent has increased immensely over the course of the last two seasons. However, there is still plenty of room for development.
