Brendan Rodgers has revealed the overall aim for leicester City’s 2021/22 season – and after a poor run of form, it is now a bit of a long shot.

The quest at the start of Leicester’s campaign was exactly the same as it right now. Is that ambition already over a third of the way through the season? Possibly. The eventuality Brendan Rodgers and the Foxes hierarchy want to realise is qualifying for Europe again.

Presumably that would preferably be done through Premier League placing; finishing first to six guarantees entry to either the Champions League or the Europa League for any club in that position. What ending highly in the English top-flight also does is stabilise the team each and every term division-wise.

Although, hopefully the King Power side do not need to concern themselves with relegation anymore. Hopefully.

If somehow the Northern Irishman at the helm has managed to steer Leicester into the bottom three in the EPL by Christmas, without resolving major issues like, urrm, conceding goals in all matches and having literally the worst record at defending set-pieces in the league, and has not changed the pitiful zonal marking system, Foxes of Leicester would advocate the once astute boss’s sacking.

Not that any support or lack of would matter, because it is likely Top Srivaddhanaprabha would have in fact acted by that time. Surely that scenario won’t happen, and I am not predicting or wishing for that eventuality – I just really want on-pitch changes as the results are becoming more than merely worrying.

What exactly did the gaffer say about Leicester City aspirations

Speaking recently, following another incompetent defensive display, the manager said this about the season so far as well as the longer term objective.

Yet with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool well out of reach, much remains to do with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United obvious rivals for a decent spot. There will always be a resurgence from Manchester United to contend with, too.

Even Wolverhampton Wanderers may finish above the Foxes at this rate. Of course, FA Cup and League Cup triumphs also bring Europe, yet the Reds await Leicester in the Carabao Cup.
