Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has contradicted injured star defender Wesley Fofana over his apparent Foxes return date.

Fofana is needed in the Leicester defence. If you disagree with that statement then try watching the Foxes a whole game, or even supporting them for 90 minutes at present. I mean, Kasper Schmeichel has not kept a clean sheet in any competition since August.

That statistic is disgraceful for LCFC in all honesty. Yet the issues are not really Schmeichel’s fault, sure he could improve in several areas but that is wishful thinking at his age. The main problems emanate from the back four; if there are five playing in a different system, you can bet your house that they will all make errors this season.

Foxes fans were hopeful the Frenchman would return sooner than expected; a desire bolstered by the fact that Fofana tweeted saying as much in the usual cryptic celebrity fashion.

However, boss Rodgers has disputed that claim:

"“(Fofana) is working very well. We’re just cautious around that. He’s done so well and worked so hard. We’ll see where he’s at come the beginning of the new year.”Leicester Mercury"

Southampton challenge proves too much for wasteful Leicester City

Jamie Vardy missed a sitter on Wednesday night against Southampton, especially for his prowess in front of goal. Harvey Barnes was a severe offender for reckless finishing once more, too; I am a fan of Barnes but feel he falls short of expectations too regularly.

Calls for Patson Daka to start – possibly in a pairing with Vardy and consequently Barnes or Ademola Lookman could drop out of the starting lineup to incorporate the Zambian – are increasingly heard from the Blue Army. Barnes is always dangerous, yet his rather unrefined arguably playground style is proving inconsistent and fruitless at the moment.

Lookman is also a threat, but his numbers aren’t quite astounding enough to justify something else not even being tried. I truly begrudge advocating the Englishman’s omission; though the need to rotate and protect Vardy at his advanced age for a professional is also necessary.
