Injury and fitness updates on Vardy and Maddison before Villa clash
Following the Southampton draw and prior to the Aston Villa match, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers provided updates on Jamie Vardy’s and James Maddison’s fitness.
The Leicester boss will be sweating over the availability of two of his most vital and currently in form personnel: Vardy and Maddison. It would be a worry to lose either, yet there are some suitable replacement options in the LCFC squad as backup, such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka.
The England midfielder is on a particularly red hot run at the moment, with six goal involvements in only his previous three games. Meanwhile the striker is second in the scoring table for the Premier League behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah at present. However, Vardy failed to convert at least one chance that he would usually bury with unnerving ease versus the Saints.
Following the match, Rodgers revealed that his forward and the Leicester icon was feeling good. This was after the 34-year-old featured in his initial mid-week match of the campaign as his game-time is being managed closely. Additionally, ‘BR’ mentioned his No.10 who had a slight issue in the Southampton clash, too:
"“It’s something we always have to look at [how much Vardy plays]. I had a chat with Jamie to see how we feels in the recovery.“He felt good, he recovered well. You saw tonight his energy, he gave everything to the game. We’ll just see with that [Vardy’s possible involvement against Villa].”On Maddison, Rodgers said this:“It was more his glute than his hip, just a little something there.”Via Birmingham MailBBC Sport now quote the Northern Irishman as confirming Maddison is available."
Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa face Leicester City
Gerrard made a great and predictable start at Villa, but his true tests have now begun, starting with their loss to Manchester City. An upcoming clash against Midlands rivals Leicester is also sure to be a tough contest for either team.
In a press conference, the Reds legend revealed that his side have suffered a couple of injury issues concerning winger Leon Bailey, as well as to fullback Matt Targett. Those knocks occurred in the Man City match.
Bailey is a doubt for the Foxes game with a muscle issue sustained whilst sprinting in the aforementioned meeting; he will be analysed but his gaffer insisted he’ll be absent for at least a couple of outings. Targett also has a problem; though Gerrard believes his player is fine for the King Power meeting.
