January transfer window: Leicester target French and Italian internationals
Leicester City are looking to improve for the next half of the season. Even with Wesley Fofana and James Justin returning, two internationals are targeted.
After an abysmal start to the Premier League season, with set-piece defending – or the lack thereof – proving to be the primary concern, the Foxes lie in mid-table rather than the top eight we would expect. That being said, there are a lot of contributing factors.
From Kasper Schmeichel going from unstoppable to average, no clear defensive partnership for the vast majority of the season thus far, incessant injuries, poor coaching, and – as always – bad luck. There are plenty of reasons, but even within this negative context, Leicester usually perform better.
Brendan Rodgers will therefore have to look towards the transfer market to add more energy and dynamism to the side for the second half of the season. At least one player has to be brought in to change how we are playing.
Leicester City scout Juventus French and Italian
According to LeicestershireLive, two of the names being scouted are French international Adrien Rabiot and Italian national Federico Bernardeschi. Both are regular starters for Juventus, so only one could realistically be signed.
Rabiot is a central midfielder mainly. This means the 26-year-old is envisioned as an already experienced replacement for Youri Tielemans, offering a ready-made player over Boubakary Soumare who must still develop. The player is a box-to-box player and offers both creativity and flare to the Juve side.
Bernardeschi by contrast is an Italian right-winger. Of course, Foxes supporters would have been much more impressed with a link to Domenico Berardi over his international competition. The 27-year-old is once more an experienced and ready-made player where Ademola Lookman continues to require development.
Neither have been utterly spectacular this season, yet both have contracts expiring soon. It is likely that the Foxes could get the Italian for a great deal, though it is yet to be seen if they would be any good.
In my opinion, developing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Soumare would be more impactful and beneficial to the side than spending incredulous wages on either of those two Juve stars. To be honest, I feel these two are unlikely signings regardless.
On the right-wing, Marc Albrighton and Ade are great options, with Ayoze Perez also performing alright on the wing, despite what his doubters would have you believe. Further, I should expect the King Power side to go in for a Karamoko Dembélé type.
