A transfer rumour claims that Claudio Ranieri is among other bosses plotting a move for Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey.

Leicester fans are always happy to see Ranieri again; while witnessing him take the helm at another Premier League club is always going to be a bit strange. Being as he was the man who guided the King Power team to the miraculous yet incredibly deserved EPL title in 2015/16. That followed an excellent Foxes blueprint devised by Nigel Pearson, it would appear.

Meanwhile the Italian is certainly doing a solid job in his contemporary Watford role – well, his attackers certainly are, anyway – as they now find themselves lifted out of the bottom three English top-flight outfits. Hornets stars such as Emmanuel Dennis, Joshua King, Ismaila Sarr, as well as Cucho Hernandez will definitely attract interest if they are to be relegated. But as previously said, the former LCFC gaffer is seemingly conducting a decent revival on Vicarage Road.

The main area Ranieri needs to clearly focus on is the defence; the fact that he was a defender in his playing career will surely aid that aim. And the ex-Roma boss apparently has his eyes on a Leicester centre-back/midfielder, Daniel Amartey.

This season the Ghanaian has managed to place himself on the periphery of Brendan Rodgers’ plans and has been useful when called upon; even seizing the direct backup spot from new signing Jannik Vestergaard. Though it is unlikely the east Midlanders will allow their asset to leave, as they continue to suffer defensive frailties.

In a TEAMtalk ‘exclusive’, it is outlined that the Hertfordshire outfit could attempt to acquire Amartey at the behest of Ranieri, who sees the Fox as a man who can assist the quest for EPL survival:

"Claudio Ranieri has asked Watford to look into the prospect of landing Daniel Amartey in the January transfer window, TEAMtalk understands.Ranieri remains confident that he can guide the Hornets to safety but is hoping for reinforcements in the New Year. One of the targets he has asked the club’s hierarchy to pursue is Amartey, a player he signed during his time with Leicester City. Amartey is out of contract at the end of the season. And we understand that talks have commenced over a new deal at the King Power."
