The latest rated player to be scouted by Leicester
Matheus Nunes is the latest footballer with plenty of potential to be linked with Leicester City. Foxes of Leicester gives you the lowdown.
The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade at Sporting Lisbon and has gained the attention of Leicester scouts, Sport Witness reports. The midfielder has spent the majority of his career at the Portuguese club and his efforts have since been rewarded with him being called up to represent Portugal for the first time in October.
Nunes reportedly played in front of LCFC officials in his game against Benfica last week, where he scored and provided an assist as well. This will come as good news for Foxes fans with changes needing to be made in order to end what has ultimately been a poor start to the season.
Additionally, the Brazilian-born possesses the all-round ability needed for a central midfielder; he is generally deployed in a similar role to Youri Tielemans, playing box-to-box. Yet the Portuguese international is able to also play both holding and attacking roles.
In the 71 senior games of his career he has picked up 12 goal contributions with five goals and seven assists. These numbers aren’t ground-breaking, but he does have the skillset and time to improve into a quality player capable of playing at the top level.
And the midfield man boasts European experience with him taking part in five UEFA Champions League games this season. In those five games he also picked up two assists.
However, Nunez will come at a cost as he is contracted with Lisbon until 2026; it is hard to see Leicester City picking up this player for cheap. He has attracted the attention of numerous clubs and was previously linked with Everton in the Summer.
While the future of Tielemans remains up in the air, and summer signing Boubakary Soumare still struggling to play in a box-to-box role, Nunes could be one of the players needed to revitalise the Foxes’ season.
