Leicester City have been linked to many players for the January window, a surprise name being Everton star Lucas Digne. Here is what you must know.

With the Premier League season in a bit of trouble due to several games being postponed over the last few weeks, the King Power side remain in the upper half of the table not too far off fifth place. However, challenging for the Champions League seems like a distant memory at the moment.

To help remedy the slow first of the season, Leicester have been linked to several players. From centre-backs like Pontus Jansson to attackers. Many supporters will agree there is a need for some more energy in the side.

That being said, recent reports have linked Everton star left-back Lucas Digne to Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers’ side, and Newcastle United. It is not difficult to see why any team would want this brilliant French player, though the question is whether or not the Foxes need another left-back.

Leicester City’s chase takes positive turn

Should those reports be true, then Rodgers is searching for players who can come in straight to the first team and reinject some energy. This would be despite previous comments from the boss that there would not be the money to spend in the window.

Digne has been linked away from the Toffees since a falling out with their boss Rafa Benitez. It is also reported that the Merseyside Blues have agreed a deal for a Ukrainian left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko. A replacement ready to go for January.

This paves the way for the French international to depart from Merseyside and head either to the Midlands or to London. Though Newcastle are linked, it is very hard to see any player wanting a stable career moving there without a lot of money involved.

For our Northern Irish gaffer, such a signing may be just what we need after the disappointing debut seasons from Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard, who have both struggled to integrate with the squad and maintain their form.

The benefits of Digne should be obvious, but using FB Ref we can identify what the player is best at. Of course, as an experienced world-class player he has excellent defensive stats, sitting in the 83rd percentile for tackling and the 97th for aerial duels won.

Further to this, the Frenchman has a clear attacking threat. From deadly passing to meaningful crosses, the player is in the 86th percentile for expected assists, meaning he is a dangerous player on the flank.

It should be noted that due to his status at Everton, a signing would not be cheap though not as expensive as it could have been should the player not have fallen out with the Everton boss. The only block will be Chelsea, who will certainly be an attracting proposition for the international.
