Three free transfers Leicester should go for in the summer window
Midfield: A creative or retentive player
When looking towards midfield, we have to remember two things. Firstly, we know that Tielemans might be on the way out if the Foxes fail to achieve a high-level of European competition. Secondly, that Rodgers had already signed Boubakary Soumare and has Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall available.
Franck Kessie would be the like-for-like replacement for the Belgian Starman. As per SmarterScout, Kessie is the rock and core of AC Milan, playing in one of two roles: either as a defensive midfielder who retains the ball, or a progressive midfielder similar to Tielemans.
While as a ‘DM’, the Ivorian midfielder scores 81/100 for ball retention and 88/100 for link-up play. It is his ability to be involved in all forms of defensive and attacking phases of play; passing between defenders, creative midfielders, and longer balls for forwards.
Within this role, the 25-year-old also takes on a box-to-box role, applying pressure up and down the pitch and often being involved in the final stages of play. He scores a 63/100 in receiving the ball in the box, so he gets up there, though he does not tend to take the shot on himself.
However, a more fitting player could be a rotation option with James Maddison and move Ayoze Perez back to the right-wing. That is Jesse Lingard. There is no doubt that when Madders is out, Leicester City are weaker.
This is partially the result of sending Dennis Praet out on loan and not utilising Ayo in his favoured position more frequently. Lingard is known for being a creative spark who works hard when given the chance, and being experienced offers the best possible rotation option with Maddison.
I’d sign Lingard while we have the chance, allowing Soumare and KDH to take up that Tielemans role should the Belgian choose to leave Leicester.
