Defence: The Burnley connection

It is almost a no-brainer to mention the ready-made Evans replacement that is James Tarkowski. With the player in high demand from both the east Midlands side and Newcastle United, the defender might have a choice to make either this January or in the summer. Either window he is almost certainly leaving Burnley.

The experienced centre-back is renowned for his strength and aerial supremacy. Though capable of more, the defender has long taken up the composer role in the backline, staying infront of attackers and only commiting to challenges when needed. Having been capped by the a high profile country such as England is also a feather in the cap.

‘Tarky’s’ successful duels totals 67% and he even gets involved in plenty of clearances. At the time of writing, according to Sofascore, the defender has achieved 5.1 clearances per game for the Clarets. Yet Sean Dyche’s main man at the back is more than a throwback-style imposing person, similarly to his boss: Tarkowski can play a nice pass and read his own teammates and the opposition very well from the footage Foxes of Leicester has seen.

This deal could clearly be labelled ‘must-sign’ for the King Power club, if not the Three Lions CB then someone very similar is required. The Foxes do need defenders despite the up-and-coming youngsters. Rodgers should sign the former to bolster the backline and replace the injury-prone Evans.

Could you imagine the coup of LCFC managing to acquire an athlete of Tarky’s calibre for no fee?! Surely that is an unlikely fantasy for the Blue Army.
