When it rains, it pours especially in regards to Leicester City and injuries. As if Leicester City’s injury woes couldn’t worsen, Brendan Rodgers revealed key players are set to have further absences than first expected.

In his press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Watford, Brendan Rodgers gave the media a much-wanted update on the club’s injury crisis. Unfortunately for Foxes fans, it was far from positive with Jamie Vardy and Jonny Evans both set for extended spells on the sidelines. The former is set to be out with a hamstring issue for up to 8 weeks, instead of the 3-4 weeks that was initially predicted.

Jonny Evans has proven to be injury-prone over the past few seasons and the veteran centre-back will be out until April due to needing an operation. This latest absence should be an alarm call for the LCFC hierarchy to make funds to sign a long-term replacement for the Northern Irishman. After all, Evans is going to get injured more and more frequently from now on.

In other news, the situation is even more farcical. Rodgers revealed he has just nine senior players fit for Watford with Boubakary Soumare and Luke Thomas both unavailable. According to BBC Radio Leicester, the former is due to illness and the latter is ‘unspecified’. Furthermore, Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are both injury doubts.

To end on a slightly positive note, Leicester City will be able to welcome back Patson Daka and Caglar Soyuncu for the away tie against Burnley on the 15th of January. Furthermore, James Justin is set to finally play in the Under-23’s to gain much-needed match fitness ahead of his long-awaited return.

Even so, the next couple of weeks look set to be extremely tricky for LCFC, with youth players inevitably needing to step up in the absence of so many senior stars. Maybe we will see the emergence of the next youth prodigy, whether that be Ben Nelson or Shane Flynn. After all, adversity can provide a perfect opportunity to shine.
