Leicester City supporters are desperate for midfield star Youri Tielemans to remain at the club, but it appears that he won’t be signing a new contract.

Retaining Tielemans was always going to be difficult following failure to qualify for the Champions League competition for two years running in almost identical fashion. Yes, Leicester were desperately unlucky not to ascend back into the tournament they performed so well in in 2016/17.

However, injuries cannot be the only blame for not making the UCL as certain unnamed team members aided the implosion with poor and nervous play. And let’s face it – the Belgian fully deserves to be playing at the top level. It is just a dreadful shame that it seems as though he will be doing so with another outfit.

A departure for the former Monaco man feels fairly unequivocal right now, as it has done before – if the Blue Army is honest with itself. By reading into comments from Brendan Rodgers during his Thursday press conference even ever so slightly, it sounds all but guaranteed that Tielemans will decline a fresh deal:

"“He [Tielemans] is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester but I understand it’s a very short career.“For players it’s about ambition, the challenge and sometimes about a different environment.”Brendan Rodgers, Daily Mail"

Leicester City stars make return at optimum time

In a definite boost for the currently absence-affected attenuated Foxes roster, five much-needed personnel would have made their comebacks on Saturday versus Burnley. That was prior to the fixture being cancelled.

One of the athletes in question has been out for nearly a year and is a much-awaited return. James Justin suffered a disastrous anterior cruciate ligament injury in February 2021 and hasn’t featured in the east Midlands team since. Though he has been training properly since late October or early November. What a positive development for LCFC.
