Rodgers outlines what’s next for Leicester’s young stars
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has commented on the development plan for the youth stars who featured in the Watford FA Cup win. Here is what he said.
A 4-1 home win against Premier League opposition with a significant number of senior team players either injured or otherwise unavailable is most impressive. A success in tactics for the Northern Irishman and a story of trust in the Leicester academy.
Several U23 Foxes were present during the fixture, with Lewis Brunt, Marcal-Madivadua, Benjamin Nelson, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Kasey McAteer, Jakub Stolarczyk, Sammy Braybrooke and Will Alves featuring either on-pitch or on the bench.
The gaffer has stated how he thought they performed, and we will look at these comments along with what plans there are for the young King Power residents.
Leicester City’s promising academy
As per LeicestershireLive, this is what Rodgers said about the players who featured during the Watford win:
"“with some young players, seeing how they were playing, the resilience we showed. Brunt had never played in front of more than 500 people before, to see how we played. Kasey creating a pre-assist for one of the goals”"
To think about how inexperienced many of these were in playing senior football – besides the English right-back Daley-Campbell, who has featured for the Foxes before – and yet they still put in a performance which felt decidedly first team.
From Brunt to McAteer, they did not feel out of place in the squad. Contributing both defensively and on the attack to inject energy, passion, and the usual youthful flare to the side. The King Power outfit can certainly expect to see more of them going forward.
