Seven injured Leicester City players return for Tottenham game
Leicester City host Tottenham Hotspurs in a vital Premier League fixture. After missing a couple on the bounce, here is the latest on the Foxes’ injuries.
Just a week ago, Brendan Rodgers had to ask for the postponement of the King Power’s fixture against Everton. This led to a Twitter and TalkSPORT meltdown, with pundits and the ill-informed railing on the Foxes for calling off that match for the second time.
Of course, there were good reasons for this. It is important to note that the East Midlands outfit only had eight senior outfield players available, far shy of the 13 competition rules calls for. Regardless, Leicester could have played Burnley, only for the Turf Moor side to call off the fixture for a COVID outbreak.
So, let us have a look at who is now available to face Spurs, a team we should have faced in this match previously.
Leicester City stars back
After an extended break from football, the Foxes will make their return unless something terrible inflicts injuries or COVID on the Midlands or London-based teams. As a result of short term injuries making a return, we could see a pretty strong squad.
As per BBC Sport Leicester, Ayoze Perez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Patson Daka, James Justin, Boubakary Soumare, Luke Thomas, and Caglar Soyuncu are set to make their return. It is not entirely clear which will be straight back into the first team, but we can give it a good guess.
What is clear is that the Zambian forward will almost certainly start at the heart of Rodgers’ attack. With all the intensity and pace of Jamie Vardy, Daka will be expected to run the White’s defence rugged.
The Turkish centre-back is non-negotiable. After all, there are not many other options available in the defensive department, with Filip Benkovic released, Daniel Amartey at AFCON, and both Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana still out injured.
With the success of Hamza Choudhury in defence against Watford, it is likely we shall see the English midfielder return to that role for this fixture. In midfield then, Youri Tielemans will need to be accompanied by either KDH or Bouba; I might be biased towards our Dewsbury-Hall.
I expect Justin, Perez, and Soumare to be present on the bench and come on later in the match should their influence be necessary. Otherwise, a selection of youngsters such as Vontae Daley-Campbell and Lewis Brunt will likely be present to supplement the squad.
