Brendan Rodgers criticises star player Youri Tielemans
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has gently laid some blame at star player Youri Tielemans’ door for the Foxes’ loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
Have you ever seen a later, more devastating and unpredictable capitulation than the one delivered by Leicester versus Tottenham on Wednesday evening? To be fair, there are games such as Manchester United’s miraculous triumph against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.
Yet the European classic only eclipses the King Power yielding at home in the Premier League due to prestige, as opposed to direct scenario. Basically, both Bayern and the Foxes were as bad as each other to surrender leads in the dying embers of either game, irrespective of the magnitude of an outcome.
The element of Leicester’s loss which really hurt the Blue Army dearly, is that victory was so near it was almost touchable. The table was being updated. Players, fans and staff were collectively already looking ahead to the Brighton & Hove Albion game on Sunday. And maybe that was part of the problem: concentration.
However, attentiveness appeared prevalent in most defenders; the problem actually is, with all due respect, the fact that Caglar Soyuncu and Jannik Vestergaard are inefficiently defending at present. And there is obviously a strong view that Vestergaard should never have even been considered for transfer, especially at the silly price paid.
Soyuncu has been on a slippery slope of decline for well over a year and is performing at an alarmingly low level of quality. Expect the Dane and Turk to be withdrawn from the starting lineup for the returning Daniel Amartey and Hamza Choudhury. That is, if Rodgers reverts to, essentially, a four-four-two formation.

Some of the blame can also indeed be placed on the elegant and usually hugely competent Tielemans. The Belgian naively and sloppily gave the ball away following the eleventh hour Spurs equaliser, apparently insubordinate of his gaffer’s instruction:
"What should City have done from kick-off?“Normally if team does score, we go direct to see if we can catch the backline celebrating, we did it against Leeds, we did it against Manchester United, and in other games. You certainly don’t run through the middle of the pitch. Youri, he knows that.“– Brendan Rodgers, Leicester Mercury"
