Brendan Rodgers’ excuses directly after final whistle vs Tottenham
These were Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers’ excuses for losing so disastrously directly after the final whistle vs Tottenham Hotspur.
The entire world witnessed the Foxes’ submissive whimper of an end to a game versus Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. With approximately 80 seconds of the Premier League outing to go until the end, Spurs managed an equaliser and a winner.
However, irrespective of the eventual loss which was almost given to the north London side on a silver platter, the whole universe also watched Leicester’s inexplicable English top-flight triumph in 2016. Swings and roundabouts. Therefore the less said about the Tottenham defeat, the better.
Although, one man Foxes of Leicester does want to hear from with regard to an explanation for the succumbing, is Brendan Rodgers:
"“Very disappointing. Last 90 seconds spoiled 93 minutes of really good work. You know you have to defend well with the quality they have. We scored two really good goals, but we conceded a disappointing equaliser, losing the duels we should have won. Really really naive from the kick-off to concede so late in the game. There were lots of really good moments, we gift-wrapped the goals, which you can’t do.”Leicester Mercury"
Ultimately Rodgers added that ‘it’s football’, meaning it happens to all clubs; he felt as though three points were incoming and then was left with anticlimax. Furthermore he said the squad will move on but following match analysis, and he asserts that the players gave their all but for two silly mistakes.
Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers still a target for Manchester United
Regardless of what some fairly vocal and judgemental Blue Army members believe at present, Rodgers remains the optimum candidate for the LCFC job. He is obviously there and there is a project in place; I myself clearly have to critique the Northern Irishman’s progress and have criticised him personally. Though there really are no better options without a post in the footballing sphere.
So if an enormous superclub come calling for Rodgers in the summer, it still could damage the east Midlands outfit over the coming few years. Couple that with the strong possibility that he would take the appointment – the 48-year-old has previous form in that sense. Manchester Evening News claim that the Leicester boss has stayed on the list of potential gaffers at Old Trafford.
