Don’t expect a Leicester signing in January for this reason
By Akash Roy
More disappointing news for Leicester City fans as the manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that there are “not so many options out there.”
It would sound shocking considering the number of problems existing in the centre-back department of the club. No reality check would have provided more clarity than Leicester’s recent encounter against Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s still unbelievable how shockingly the Foxes lost that game into 7 minutes of added time. Both Jannik Vestergaard and Çağlar Söyüncü were abysmal throughout the game. Their lack of coordination and misinterpretations of Tottenham’s offenses landed Kasper Schmeichel in deep problematic scenarios. Any other competent defense could have stopped Steven Bergwijn’s back-to-back attempts that snatched the cushion from the hosts.
Will Leicester City won’t do business for two winter windows?
Now, the obvious amendment can arrive from two paths: one is landing someone capable of handling the defensive duties utilizing the transfer window. Another option is to hope for the respective returns of the recovering players. Rodgers was confident of landing an imminent CB loan deal a week ago.
But within a week, however, his statements carry a tone of uncertainty with them. It seems that the management doesn’t want to spend their pockets for the second time in consecutive winter transfer windows. To fix the east Midlands team’s delicate underbelly a commitment to invest is imperative.
Not recruiting the obvious need gives an impression of the club being content with an underwhelming finish. Without proper CBs, Rodgers will have to work with makeshifts until Wesley Fofana is ready to resume his duties. Meanwhile, others like Hamza Choudhury and Daniel Amartey can occasionally help the side in the backline on a needs must basis.
"“It’s going to be really tough for us, the possibility for us to get someone in on loan, there’s not so many options that are out there. We may have to go with what we have. We’ll continue to look and see where the possibilities are, but we may have to go with what we have.” – Rodgers said after the devastating 3-2 loss to Spurs via Leicester Mercury"
Ideally, this idea is bleak and short-term; Without a proper defense, the outfit will endure suffering regardless of its brilliant attackers. A topsy turvy fight between conceding and scoring will often result in disappointments, more so now that the other Premier League sides know the delicate nature of Leicester’s problems.
