Leicester’s sales in comparison with signings over last 3 seasons
Large investment, sporadic gains
The current season, the 21/22 season. Of course, the January window is not yet over, though it looks as though no major deals will be done in the remaining time which could improve the side or impact the expenditure.
The summer window saw the addition of Boubakary Soumare, Patson Daka, Jannik Vestergaard, Ryan Bertrand, and the loan to buy addition of Ademola Lookman. This amounted to £60.84m in expenditure.
In terms of departures, this was the first season Rodgers’ men did not lose a major player. Rachid Ghezzal finally left despite an impressive time out on loan, and the Belgian attacking-midfielder Praet was sent on loan with mandatory buying clause. This totalled just £3.60m.
A net expenditure of £57.24m, the highest yet. The ambitions were once again clear, challenge the top four more than ever before. A defender, a striker like Vardy, a midfielder like the Belgian Starman, and finally a winger who can contribute.
However, a combination of poor choices, no pre-season, several significant injuries and a continual injury crisis has seen the lofty ambitions cut short. This window was the highest spending, but saw the smallest gains in performance.
