The two clubs that are most interested in signing Youri Tielemans
By Will Kennedy
Currently, Tielemans is still LCFC’s club-record signing, having splashed £40m to get his permanent signature. Transfermarkt have him valued at £49.50m, a figure that – if he signed a new deal – clubs would have to nearly double. But as things stand, that fee is shrinking. I’d imagine that, in the summer, the Foxes would still be able to make a profit on him, but it won’t be any more than £10m or £15m, with clubs only needing to spend around £50m for the 24-year-old.
So, who are the sides interested in the Belgian? In the last few weeks, rumours have circulated about Arsenal being interested in snatching him off Leicester City’s books, with reports suggesting that Tielemans’ agent had visited Arsenal’s training ground to hold talks with the club. A move to North London would be a bitter blow to many fans, with Arsenal a destination that, on the surface, looks more of a side-step rather than the upgrade that many are expecting. Arsenal are needing a new midfielder, so naturally they will be interested, but it’s not a move that would match Tielemans’ ceiling.
The Leicester Mercury are reporting that both Liverpool and Barcelona are the ‘most interested’ in signing Youri, two clubs that do match his stature. Liverpool are still looking to replace Gini Wijnaldum who left Anfield for PSG last summer. The Merseyside giants will be looking at Thiago and Jordan Henderson, two exceptionally talented midfielders for the club, neither of whom are getting any younger. Signing Tielemans as a long-term replacement would be incredibly smart business.
