In spite of incorrect talk surrounding his contract, Daniel Amartey won’t be leaving Leicester City anytime soon and is contracted for almost a year and a half.

Revival is a perfect word to describe Amartey at Leicester, specifically in 2021/22. The Ghana international was generally considered a peripheral asset on the Foxes roster; by fans, experts and myself admittedly.

There clearly were talents and great strengths in the versatile defensive man’s repertoire, yet he rarely had the chance to consistently exhibit them. Amartey also occasionally seemed awkward and slightly clueless in his play; playing out-of-position and having no preferred role is influential there, too.

However, this season necessity has found Amartey a home at centre-back for LCFC – and he really is flourishing. Manager Brendan Rodgers called upon the 27-year-old to play there this campaign and his player is now almost undroppable.

That is why inaccurate talk of Amartey’s contract expiring in June of this year worried some Leicester supporters. Though the deal actually runs out in 2023, thankfully. Don’t expect him to be going anywhere soon.

Something to look forward to for Leicester City fans

While the two week winter break begins for Premier League players and staff, LCFC is having a rest. For some of us that is difficult to take, sort of like the summer prior to pre-season friendlies. But there is a busy schedule to look ahead to.

Of course the fortnight off coincides with the expiration of the January transfer window, which can be quite thrilling. Or a complete anticlimax. Leicester are not expected to make any significant signings; in fact, manager Brendan Rodgers suggested that a defensive loanee won’t even materialise. That is very disappointing news for the Blue Army, pandemic aside, to be frank.
