The three worst Leicester signings of the King Power era
By Akash Roy
But unfortunately, he started to pick up injuries which derailed his momentum. His availability became a concern. Filip Benkovic played just twice for the Foxes in his four-year tenure. Within that period, the defender was on three other loan spells. Playing a combined total of 11 games Bristol City, Cardiff City, and OH Leuven, he never did manage to replicate his early shine of Celtic.
Benkovic was once expected to fill the void that Harry Maguire left behind. The fiasco happened for several reasons, but two issues prevented the player from acclimatising. The first issue was his injuries sustained which broke his momentum.
The second issue was because of some personal matters. Never were those matters spoken publicly, but mentally they affected the 24-year-old a lot. That’s why an escape was urgent for Benkovic. It is not easy to tackle the challenges that Premier League throws. His move to Udinese made a lot of sense, as it’s closer to his home in Zagreb. We hope he can get his career back on track in Italy.
Jannik Vestergaard
The less it is said about our newest addition Jannik Vestergaard, the better. The Danish centre-back was purchased from Southampton for an undisclosed fee of around £15.84 million. What nobody had expected was the intolerable performance he was going to showcase in the coming months for Leicester City. A stature of 6’6″ makes Vestergaard ineffective with his reactions to assess what’s happening around him.
Despite the number of injuries at the back, Brendan Rodgers has tried his best to refrain from using him. The manager has even tested defensive midfielders in place of Vestergaard. Still, the 29-year-old has found himself featuring nine times already in this season. He has failed to nullify offensive threats on numerous occasions.
Due to his incapacity, the team’s backline has been cut wide open on several instances where the team has lost critical points. The fans are not happy with him, and neither is the boss. Rodgers feels he has wasted a modest sum by purchasing the player, who he thought would facilitate his tactics.
