Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur are tracking this non-league star
Both Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspurs are monitoring the situation and form of non-league striker Fin Barker. Here is what Foxes fans should to know.
It is not uncommon for teams within the professional leagues to be monitoring the players of non-league clubs. There is always a bargain to be had and players to be snapped up for youth setups and sold at much higher prices later.
In this case, the subject of much interest is an 18 year old striker. It is reported that several clubs are seeking an out-of-window deal to sign the youngster. Beyond the two mentioned, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have been touted as interested.
Leicester City going for another gem
The story of signing a non-league star for big money and that player developing into one of the greatest ever strikers in Premier League history is certainly well known. The Foxes were laughed at for signing Jamie Vardy, and look where we are now.
However, the same can never happen again. No one can laugh when an young English forward is on the rise in the lower leagues, as there is always an option for them to climb the ladder swiftly.
Barker is playing for Mickleover FC, scoring 18 goals since his debut in October. Those are good statistics for a new striker and clearly indicates the player will soon be on the move up the league ladder.
Fro the small amount of information you can get on the player – so much less data is available – you have to make inferences about the play style. The English youngster has pace, explosiveness, and a general completeness to his game, though of course there are still areas where he could develop.
Similar to Leicester youngster Jacob Wakeling, the striker will need to improve his consistency and prove himself at a higher level. The likelihood is that after a signing, the player would either immediately go out on loan or stay in the U23 squad where a gap has opened since the departure of Wakeling on loan.
Of course we know the Foxes are looking for summer deals, but any deal could be done as the player is outside the professional leagues, so this is one to watch for the foreseeable future. The next couple of weeks could see a transfer to one of the aforementioned clubs.
